Introducing Sections in Microsoft Places

In this video we discuss the new ‘Sections’ feature in Microsoft Places.

The concept of ‘Sections’ in Microsoft Places was introduced in mid November 2024 as a way of organising desks.

Previously, desks were linked with Floors. Now they need to be linked with Sections, and in turn, Sections are ‘parented’ to Floors.

In this video our Microsoft Places team explores:

  • How this update impacts desk and workspace organisation,
  • What the new hierarchy structure looks like
  • How ‘Sections’ might be a way to improve performance and the navigation of available desk areas across each individual floor.

Subsequent to this video we also discovered that the new sections could also be a move to enhance privacy – I.e. allowing Places to indicate a co-worker is in a certain ‘section’ instead of signposting their exact desk!
